Naturist Family Youth Gathering
Sunsport's 14th Annual Naturist Family Youth Gathering will be July 6-14. Spaces for campers are still available. Children aged 5-17 and their families will experience a fun week of growth and community emphasizing interpersonal relations skills, learning, and creativity in a natural environment. Campers have much flexibility in choosing their activities whether their interests are arts and crafts, movie making, sports, science, gardening, or drama.
As usual we will have a fun-filled day playing in the sand and surf at a clothing-optional ocean beach, a camp variety show, crafts, nature exploration, canuding and kayaking, non-competitive sports, producing a claymation video, campfires, and lots of pool time, with individual attention for each camper. There will be special activities best done clothesfree such as a slip-n-slide, tie dye, water balloon throwing, and a 10 foot ice cream sundae with as much landing on bodies as in mouths. Workshops on being proud of who we are, body acceptance, communication skills, and conflict resolution will help establish an atmosphere of caring about each other's feelings and positive relationships. Parents participate as much or as little as they like. Most of the favorite counselors will be returning. A gallery of camp photos, articles, and claymation videos from past years are on Sunsport's website.
Enrollment forms are also on Sunsport's website. If your child is attending, please email Morley at morleynaturist@hotmail.com. We need to know the names and ages of campers and any activities adult family members might like to lead. This information would be helpful in designing the schedule.
AANR-Florida is offering a scholarship for a camper whose parents are AANR-Florida members.
Thanks to the American Association For Nude Recreation, the Naturist Education Foundation, and the Naturist Society Foundation for making significant financial contributions to help support the camp.
Donations from others would be much appreciated to help defray costs.
Important Judicial Case
In April, a law was passed in Florida restricting nudity in locations where licensed massage therapy is performed. The good news is that massages in clubs chartered by the American Association For Nude Recreation (AANR) are exempt from the law. The law passed the Florida House and Senate unanimously.
The exemption for AANR clubs such as Sunsport was sheparded through with the assistance of lobbyist Ramon Maury who is employed by AANR, AAANR-Florida, and South Florida Free Beaches. The law shows that legislators understand the difference between wholesome nudity and illicit activity. For more details, see the June 2024 edition of the AANR Bulletin.
All Sunsport year round members are members of both AANR and the Naturist Society Foundation.

Permaculture is a philosophy of design for creating a sustainable human culture. That is, it's a way of thinking about how we set up the support systems around us: shelter, food, water, energy, society and business. Well designed permaculture systems allow us to live as a beneficial part of the ecosystems around us.

Depictions of nudity are rampant throughout ancient Greek and Roman forms of art; so commonplace, in fact, that the “ideal form” as exemplified by the gods was a highly athletic, physically strong, nude male. This was a distinct Greco-Roman tradition as other ancient sculptures, like that of the Egyptians and Persians, were not crafted in this manner; “to the Greeks [nudity] was the mark of a hero”.
The choice to depict their greatest heroes and gods in the nude was not on a whim, but rather part of a deeply rooted philosophical and cultural ideology in which the human body was celebrated rather than shamed. Athletic competitions at religious festivals were done in the nude, and these demonstrated a love and idolization of the body in ways that were “unparalleled”
Roman, Imperial period, ca. 2nd century CE. A fabulous bronze figure of Apollo Kitharoidos or Citharoedus – a depiction of Apollo, the Greek and Roman god of archery, music, and prophecy, holding a kithara (Latin cithara) or lyre. Nude, the athletic deity stands in contrapposto with his weight on his left leg, the right relaxed and bent at the knee. He holds a plectrum in his lowered right hand, while he raises his left hand, which would have originally grasped a kithara. Gazing to his right, his idealistic visage is crowned by a centrally parted coiffure bound in a fillet and tied in a chignon as 4 long braids fall to his shoulders.
Niobid Statue Nude Woman Roman Baths Thermae Rome Sculpture
Roman, late Republic to early Imperial Period, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A charming cast-bronze figurine of a fighting dwarf used for entertainment by upper-class citizens. The ithyphallic figure stands nude with a macrophallus draped between stunted legs, exhibits impressive musculature on his thighs, abdomen, and chest, and holds his arms as if wielding a shield and steadying a spear just prior to loosing it through the air. His masculine countenance displays silvered leaded-bronze eyes and furrowed brows as if consumed by the intensity of battle, with a lengthy beard flowing across his pectoral muscles, and a matted coiffure from wearing a helmet.
