Sunsport in the News

Sunsport has received wonderful publicity in the naturist press recently. The Fall issue (42.1) of N Magazine published by the Naturist Society Foundation has 6 articles on events at Sunsport. That has to be some kind of record.
Much thanks to the authors: Norma Mitchell, Bill Van Spanje, Leo Santiago, Albert Chung, Thomas LeBlanc, Chris Moore, and the campers from the Family Youth Gathering. There were also many great photos by Carmen Hamm, David Gibbon, Thomas Wedding, John Dodge, Karl Harris, and David Lewis.
The November issue of the American Association For Nude Recreation's Bulletin had an article about the Family Youth Gathering by Morley Schloss with many photos by David Gibbon.
If you are not yet a member of TNSF and AANR, please consider joining. They do a lot for Sunsport and all of naturism.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Florida law requires that all employees be paid at least $15 per hour by 2026. The Sunsport Board has decided to raise employee wages by $1 per hour each year until the $15 per hour is reached. Sunsport's wonderful and capable staff certainly deserves the raises. In order to pay for the raises and the greatly increased costs of almost everything, rental accommodation rates, membership fees, and site rental rates will be increased by 5% commencing January 1st, 2023. The new rate sheet is on the Sunsport website here.

Many friends from the North have now arrived with more people arriving daily. Many seasonal activities have resumed.

It's a wonderful happy time at Sunsport.

IMPORTANT TRASH POLICY CHANGE

The trash area in the northeast corner of Sunsport has been eliminated. Large trash items may now be placed only in the maintenance yard with the supervision of Team Leader Roger Byrd, preferably Monday through Friday.
The trailer holding recyclable scrap metal will be moved to the maintenance area. Plastic bags full of waste should be deposited in the dumpster in the recycling area, not in the maintenance area.
banner-recyclevert
Reminder:
Please use the appropriate containers for throwing out items. Place materials such as paper and cardboard in the yellow bins; cans, plastics except Styrofoam, juice boxes, and glass and plastic bottles in the blue bins. Place large items such as platforms and furniture near, but not in, the dumpster. Place only bagged garbage and small items in the dumpster. Never place plastic bags in the bins since they clog the recycling equipment. Thank you.

To help Sunsport and the environment, *please deposit aluminum cans in a special bin with a round hole in the top in the main recycling area.
  • The yellow containers are for paper and flattened cardboard
  • The blue containers are for aluminum cans*, glass, juice boxes, and plastics except styrofoam, bags, and utensils.
  • Deposit other trash in the large grey or black trash bins with tops.
Please secure all trash cans tightly since raccoons are skilled at opening containers and making large messes. Thanks.

Most Deadly Plant at Sunsport

Not if you eat it tho. Actually tastes very good.
But as impenetrable barriers goes this is one of the best.
IMG_5373
Salak (Salacca zalacca) is a species of palm tree (family Arecaceae) native to Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. It is cultivated in other regions of Indonesia as a food crop, and reportedly naturalized in Bali, Lombok, Timor, Maluku, and Sulawesi.
IMG_5374
The fruits grow in clusters at the base of the palm, and are also known as snake fruit due to the reddish-brown scaly skin. They are about the size and shape of a ripe fig, with a distinct tip. The pulp is edible. The fruit can be peeled by pinching the tip, which should cause the skin to slough off so it can be pulled away. The fruit inside consists of three lobes with the two larger ones, or even all three, containing a large inedible seed. The lobes resemble, and have the consistency of, large peeled garlic cloves. The taste is usually sweet and acidic, with a strong astringent edge, but its apple-like texture can vary from very dry and crumbly
salack fruit
Harvesting is a bit challenging due to the numerous spins on the underside of the fronds. Due to the dense foliage and sharp spines, Salacca palms are commonly used as impenetrable privacy hedge.

Hey What is Permaculture?

Permaculture is a philosophy of design for creating a sustainable human culture. That is, it's a way of thinking about how we set up the support systems around us: shelter, food, water, energy, society and business. Well designed permaculture systems allow us to live as a beneficial part of the ecosystems around us.

7 Nude Indian Painting

That Continue To Amaze Us

Reading the pages of history through scriptures and caves is a crucial part of learning through the ages. One such domain which is not only quintessential but also controversial in the subject of Indian culture is nude Indian painting.

Female (Nude) by Mahadev Viswanath Dhurandhar
Female (Nude) By Mahadev Viswanath Dhurandhar

When referring to this kind of art, the first impression comes with its subject, the portrayal of females. Sigiriya Damsels, a massive 5th century mural in Sri Lanka, have 500 naked ladies adorned on the Lion Rock.

The murals of Ajanta tell the Jataka stories, the oldest 2nd century BC age Indian art. Here, there lies handsome princes and princesses with love-lorn displaying heavy breasts and feminine beauty. If you look closely at the old Indian sculptures, you will find there is a certain kind of an obsession of Indians with the sensual body parts. It is momentous to note that nude art is not always about eroticism, but rather about creating a sense of fertility and abundance through females.

Self-Portrait As A Tahitian By Artist Amrita Sher-Gil.
Self-Portrait As A Tahitian By Amrita Sher-Gil

To complement the idea, you must know that centuries ago, 1200 BC, in the reign of the Mauryan empire, women and men didn’t wear anything but just a fabric to cover the essentials, close to nothing. It is not surprising that India has a rich nude art history, from which many Indian artists have drawn inspiration. This article highlights some of the famous ones whose art is irresistible.
