Good news! Most Sunsport residents and visitors have now been vaccinated to avoid Covid 19. Thus, Sunsport's Board has determined that people will no longer be required to wear masks indoors at Sunsport. However, people not vaccinated are encouraged to wear a mask inside buildings and to practice social distancing.

Rootz NFLuX will be organizing the Full Moon Ritual and writes :
" A full Moon Ceremony is a time to honor all that we have come through as a collective consciousness and be with the community in a way that allows for the walls to come down, and to return with one another in merriment, singing and being"
Each ritual will be different with various participants bringing the season with them, in whatever way resonates at the time, This is a rotational circle with the leaders as to what happens at each circle. Bring your heart, a smile, something to sit on, and perhaps things to share. Know you are welcome, and appreciated.

Events in April
Sunsport Gardens is enjoying some of the best weather of the year with lots of sun and not too hot or cold weather. People are playing daily petanque, pickleball, and often volleyball. Qigong is now afternoons at 1 pm, water aerobics Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 am and line dancing Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 am. New are belly dancing lessons at 4 pm Tuesdays in the pavilion.
Most of Sunsport's members have been fully vaccinated; the wearing of masks is now a matter of personal preference.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt for children will be on Sunday, April 17th. Children should meet on the restaurant deck at 11 am.
|
|
As usual, a community drum circle will be on the first Friday, April 1st. The special $5 ground fee for drum circles will now be offered only to people arriving between 5 pm and 10 pm.
|
|
After 10 pm, when the office closes, the regular ground fee rates will apply.
|
|

Ongoing activities include daily afternoon Pétanque at 2, Qigong at 1PM is daily in good weather on the Orchid Law, Water Aerobics Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 10, Line Dancing is Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 9:00 to 10:30, morning Pickleball.

Beginning in April, the special drum circle ground fees will be in effect only until 10 pm when the office closes. After 10 pm entry, regular ground fees will apply.

Please arrive before 10pm to enjoy the $5 price.

Town of Loxahatchee Groves
The Town of Loxahatchee Groves annual poker ride included a stop at Sunsport on the last Sunday in March. Twenty-five people chose to ride their horses through Sunsport. The riders included the mayor and vice mayor. A free day pass to Sunsport was included in the packet each rider received. Several riders discovered Sunsport for the first time on the ride. Many riders said they were impressed; some said that they were looking forward to visiting Sunsport soon.

Alligators:
|
|
|
|
|
|
Sunsport often has alligators in its ponds. For safety reasons, the County attempts to relocate them to the Everglades. It is almost impossible to trap the alligators when people feed the fish and turtles. The people food is not good for the fish and turtles; please refrain from the feeding particularly when alligators are around.
|
|
|
|
|
|
The dates for the Weekends for Young Adults have changed. They will now be the second weekend in May, September, and January. The next event will be May 13-15.
|
|
|

NEW POLICY ON TARPS:
The Sunsport Board has established a new policy:
" Tarps or canopy systems on domiciles may be used only with a manufactured frame structure, effective May 1, 2022. Tarps may be used on domiciles on an emergency basis for no more than 30 days."
The objective is to beautify Sunsport. Leaks in trailers should be repaired or covered with a carport. Outdoor social areas may be under a manufactured canopy or in a structure approved by management. Existing policy requires that storage sheds have rigid sides and roof and be hurricane strapped down. All tarps covering trailers must be removed by May 1.

The Sunsport Board has established a Nature Preserve area including the walking and golf cart nature trails through the jungle, the Labyrinth, the Permaculture Project, the Lotus Pond, and the Meditation Field overlooked by a beautiful Meditating Buddha Head.
|
|
The cart trail has been elevated to avoid flooding. The Serenity Garden near the office now has a waterfall, beautiful new plants, a small campfire area, a Buddha statue, and an aviary.
|
|
There will be no camping in these areas, just experiencing Sunsport's natural beauty. The Nature Preserve and the Serenity Garden exemplify the spirit of Sunsport.
|
|
|
|
|
May is the month when lower summer rates for ground fees and site rentals start.
The March issue of the AANR Bulletin has a well written article by Jodi Neering on Sunsport's Family Youth camp. There is also an important article entitled "Raising Girls In Nudism".
Sunsport has many new members; the long-term membership is at a new high. Come meet the new members, and enjoy Sunsport's natural beauty.

IMPORTANT TRASH POLICY CHANGE
|
The trash area in the northeast corner of Sunsport has been eliminated. Large trash items may now be placed only in the maintenance yard with the supervision of Team Leader Roger Byrd, preferably Monday through Friday.
|
|
The trailer holding recyclable scrap metal will be moved to the maintenance area. Plastic bags full of waste should be deposited in the dumpster in the recycling area, not in the maintenance area.
|
|
|
|
|
Please help recycle. Place clean paper and cardboard in the yellow bins and cans, plastics (except bags, styrofoam, and utensils), and bottles in the blue bins. Place only bagged garbage in the dumpster.
|
To help Sunsport and the environment, *please deposit aluminum cans in a special bin with a round hole in the top in the main recycling area.
|
- The yellow containers are for paper and flattened cardboard
- The blue containers are for aluminum cans*, glass, juice boxes, and plastics except styrofoam, bags, and utensils.
- Deposit other trash in the large grey or black trash bins with tops.
|
Please secure all trash cans tightly since raccoons are skilled at opening containers and making large messes. Thanks.

The Benefits of Mulch
|
Mulch may make a garden look tidy, but the work it does to improve the growing conditions for plants is what makes it most appealing. Those layers of bark or pine straw also improve soil texture, suppress weeds, and conserve water. In nature, the forest floor is covered by leaves, twigs, fruits, branches, and decomposing plants for much, if not all, of the year. With the help of animals, microbes, and seasonal weather changes, these decomposing materials create a litter layer that protects the soil from erosion and weather extremes. We spread mulch in our gardens to mimic this natural process.

The word mulch has been derived from the German word molsch means “easy to decay,” and mulches have widely been used for vegetable production since ancient times (Lightfoot 1994). Mulching is referred as spreading various covering materials on the surface of soil to minimize moisture losses and weed population and to enhance crop yield (Nalayini 2007; Kader et al. 2019). Mulches could potentially minimize water runoff, improve infiltration capacity of soil, restrain weed population via shading, and perform as obstacle in evapotranspiration (Rathore et al. 1998). Mulching has also some other positive environmental effects such as temperature regulation of soil and plant roots, minimum nutrient losses, cut down soil erosion and compactness, and improved physical conditions of soil (Ngouajio and McGiffen 2004; Lamont 2005).
