"Making negative, misleading, or false comments about the Sunsport community or its management is discouraged. Members are encouraged to first report issues directly to Sunsport management so that they can be addressed. In the event that a member disseminates false or misleading information, this act may result in cancellation of membership."

Reminder:
A word on recycling and trash removal: For recycling, please use the yellow and blue containers located throughout Sunsport. The yellow containers are for paper and flattened cardboard; the blue containers are for aluminum cans, glass, juice boxes, and plastics except styrofoam, bags, and utensils. Deposit other trash in trash cans. You may leave small yellow and blue bins or bags roadside at you lot, but not overnight. You may also use the main dumpster area. However, please place discarded carpeting, furniture, appliances, or any other large item on the side of the roadway near your lot, not in the dumpster. The maintenance team will pick up such large items.

To help Sunsport and the environment, *please deposit aluminum cans in a special bin with a round hole in the top in the main recycling area.
  • The yellow containers are for paper and flattened cardboard
  • The blue containers are for aluminum cans*, glass, juice boxes, and plastics except styrofoam, bags, and utensils.
  • Deposit other trash in the large grey or black trash bins with tops.
Please secure all trash cans tightly since raccoons are skilled at opening containers and making large messes. Thanks.

Permaculture Sunsport News

Unusual Residents:

as the Sun gets lower we thought we would recognize some of our more unusual inhabitants.

Pest2689

Thorn Bug - Umbonia crassicornis

treehopper, (family Membracidae), any of approximately 3,200 species of insects (order Homoptera) that are easily recognized by their vertical face and grotesquely enlarged thorax, which may extend anteriorly over the head to form one or more spines and expands posteriorly over the body to form a hoodlike covering. They are sometimes called insect brownies because of their elflike appearance. They range in colour from green and blue to bronze and are often marked with spots or stripes.

Penis Snake

ps2
Native to Colombia and Venezuela, the eel-like animals are more properly called Typhlonectes natans, and are a type of caecilian, which can range in size from a few inches to 5 feet long, depending on the species.
Caecilians, which roughly translates to “blind ones” in Latin, have poor eyesight, but use a pair of sensory tentacles to help them find food. Little is known about Typhlonectes natans, but experts say they are a completely separate order of amphibians, distinct from frogs, toads, salamanders and newts, and prefer warm, slow-moving bodies of shallow fresh water with aquatic vegetation.

Florida Leatherleaf

434aa
Leidyula floridana, is a species of tropical air-breathing land slug, shell-less terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Veronicellidae.
Florida leatherleaf slugs, like other terrestrial slugs, eat fungi, decaying plant matter, and sometimes live plants. They are generally active in damp, dark areas because they need to keep their bodies moist.
They are close relatives of snails, and, like snails, leave a trail of slime/mucus wherever they go — this sticky coat helps them conserve moisture and helps them adhere to whatever they’re moving on.
Most slugs are hermaphrodites, able to perform male or female reproductive functions, or even both at once. This makes them especially pestiferous, because even one slug can give rise to a whole population of them.

Hey What is Permaculture?

Permaculture is a philosophy of design for creating a sustainable human culture. That is, it's a way of thinking about how we set up the support systems around us: shelter, food, water, energy, society and business. Well designed permaculture systems allow us to live as a beneficial part of the ecosystems around us.

Why Is Nudity Important in Art?

Article written by Nick Hilden

A few years ago I was visiting my mother, sister, and ten-year-old nephew in Seattle after spending several months in Paris. We were sitting around my laptop looking at pictures I’d taken throughout the city, I hoping to inspire my artistically inclined nephew in some way, they probably somewhat bored with what to them amounted to little more than vacation photos. And I would not begrudge this boredom—destination photos are usually only interesting to the person who took them.

artVqZ6URdANc1gHNUWv5h2N
by A. Crommen and dated 1918.
Anyways, I was clicking us through the shots I’d taken at Musée d’Orsay when we came upon a photo that caused them all to sit up straight and break out of their torpor. It was L’Origine du monde (The Origin of the World) by Gustave Courbet—a big, tufted, photorealistic vagina.
The change in the room was noticeable. Both my mother and sister became visibly nervous, and one of them urged me to move on to the next photo. Meanwhile, my nephew was peering with interest.

'Untitled' by Cindy Sherman (1997)
“It’s a very important painting,” I said before clicking on to a less circumstantially-discomforting photo—another painting by Courbet in which a stag is being torn apart by hunting dogs.
This brief incident made me wonder, why did this sudden imposition of nudity—nudity beautifully captured in a renowned masterpiece, no less—have such a startling effect on its viewers? Was it because they were uptight Americans rather than salacious French? Was it because the painting is so lifelike? Or perhaps because the organ-in-question itself was depersonalized by a lack of head and limbs? Maybe the bigger question is—what role does nudity play in art?

The Changing Role of Nudity in Art

Nudity has been present in art for just about as long as humans have been creating it.
The earliest depictions of nudity were often homages to fertility, which eventually gave way to the ancient Greeks’ expression of appreciation for the human form—usually male depictions of nude gods, heroes, athletes, and warriors. The Greeks tended to clothe women in their art, a tradition that wasn’t broken until the fourth century BCE, when Praxiteles sculpted a nude Aphrodite. Around then, seduction began creeping into western art (though it is worth mentioning that the Hindus had worked sexuality into their art for some time)...............continued at Artzine.com
