Sunsport is open to guests.

The Covid 19 Virus Pandemic is spreading in Palm Beach County. The safety of the members of the Sunsport community and guests is paramount. At this time, there have been no known cases at Sunsport. However the virus is asymptomatic; we are taking all precautions.
|
|
We will be particularly mindful at events and in that respect have cancelled the monthly Friday Drum Circle for August
|
|
|
|
|
|
Remember staying six feet away from other people and wear a mask when applicable.

Saturday is Movie Night
The Saturday evening movie nights hosted by Theresa Frazier have been well attended. People select the movies to be shown and bring snacks

Daily Events
This summer Water Aerobics is continuing each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 am as is daily petanque.

Monthly Drum Circle Cancelled
The August First Friday Community Drum Circle is cancelled due to the difficulty enforcing safety measures during the pandemic.

The 2020 Flow Harvest Weekend for Young Adults will be August 7-9.
|
|
There will be great poolside music, campfires, and several workshops. Due to the pandemic, social distancing (6 feet) and masks will be required in accordance with a Palm Beach County ordinance. The weekend is only $20 for people aged 18-30 including tent camping . Others are welcome to attend all events for the regular fees. The Weekend is produced by Karl Harris.

Sunsport's restaurant, the Naturally Nude Cafe, is now serving with limited seating space in addition to its take out and delivery service.
|

Now people from outside Sunsport can order delicious and healthful food from the Naturally Nude Cafe through Uber-Eats. That should help people in the community become more aware of Sunsport. .

- The restaurant will be open for lunch from 11 am - 1 pm during the next Young Adult Naturist Weekend August 8th and 9th.
|
The restaurant will reopen for lunches during season when attendance warrants.
|
|

The lotus pond is now in full bloom as are many bright colored flowers throughout Sunsport. People are taking regular golf cart rides on the trail through the jungle and past natural attractions.
|
|
|
|
|
The hot tub spa has been closed for resurfacing which requires 2 weeks of curing. It will reopen Wednesday, August 5th, with beautiful walls and sparkling water.
|
The Board has allocated funds for a major upgrade of Sunsport's WIFI system. We can look forward to faster, more reliable service in all areas of Sunsport.

Reminder:
Please use the appropriate containers for throwing out items. Place materials such as paper and cardboard in the yellow bins; cans, plastics except Styrofoam, juice boxes, and glass and plastic bottles in the blue bins.
|
Place large items such as platforms and furniture near, but not in, the dumpster. Place only bagged garbage and small items in the dumpster. Never place plastic bags in the bins since they clog the recycling equipment.
|
To help Sunsport and the environment, please deposit aluminum cans in a special bin with a round hole in the top in the main recycling area.
|
- The yellow containers are for paper and flattened cardboard
- The blue containers are for aluminum cans, glass, juice boxes, and plastics except styrofoam, bags, and utensils.
- Deposit other trash in trash cans.
|
Please secure all trash cans tightly since raccoons are skilled at opening containers and making large messes. Thanks.

We are honored that AANR-Florida has chosen Sunsport to host its 2021 Convention next June.

The Naturist Family Youth Camp was lots of fun,
|
|
|
becoming a loving, caring community. Campers, parents, and counselors successfully adjusted to the challenge of social distancing and wearing masks for everyone's safety. Activities were modified, but not cancelled. There were sports, boating, fishing, tie dying, body painting, and lots of time in the pool plus a beautiful sunny day at clothing optional Haulover Beach hosted by South Florida Free Beaches .

Campers constructed bat houses to attract mosquito eating bats. Each morning started with a workshop developing interpersonal skills and body acceptance. Campers created a claymation video and, on the last evening, produced a variety show to display their talents. We did miss a few campers who were unable to travel from the West Coast and Canada.
|
|

Sunsport is building a vibrant permaculture community.

Dragon Fruit
Dragon fruit is a food that grows on a climbing cactus called hylocereus, which you'll find in tropical regions around the world. The plant’s name comes from the Greek word "hyle," which means "woody," and the Latin word "cereus," which means "waxen."
|
|
|
|
Check out our Dragon Fruit located to the right of the dumpsters.

|
|
|
On the outside, the fruit has the appearance of a hot pink or yellow bulb with spike-like green leaves shooting up like flames around it.
|
|
Cut it open, and you'll find fleshy white stuff inside dotted with black seeds that are OK to eat.
|
This fruit comes in red- and yellow-skinned varieties. The cactus originally grew in southern Mexico and South and Central America. The French brought it to Southeast Asia in the early 19th century.
|
|
|
|
Sweet pitayas come in three types, all with leathery, slightly leafy skin:
|
- Hylocereus undatus (Pitaya blanca or white-fleshed pitaya) has pink-skinned fruit with white flesh. This is the most commonly seen "dragon fruit".
- Hylocereus costaricensis (Pitaya roja or red-fleshed pitaya, also known as Hylocereus polyrhizus) has red-skinned fruit with red flesh.
- Hylocereus megalanthus (Pitaya amarilla or yellow pitaya, also known as Selenicereus megalanthus) has yellow-skinned fruit with white flesh.

‘A documentary you said.’
|

‘Yes, a piece, on the photographer Diane Arbus.’
|
|
‘Was that how you pronounced her name? I always wondered.’
|
‘Can you tell us about the nudist colony photograph?’
‘It was a long time ago. I can tell you that much.’
|
|
‘We were young—though at the time we thought we were getting old—maybe we didn’t know we were going to live so long.
|
|
|
|

They put a note up asking for volunteers; at first a lot of people wanted to do it—they were excited about being naturalists, that’s what they called themselves. But you have to remember at that time everyone wasn’t running around exposing themselves like they do now. A lot of women still wore hats and gloves if they were going out. These people liked the idea of getting a picture taken of them on their vacations—most of them were very ordinary people, except for the nudity.
|
They were schoolteachers, accountants, they worked for insurance companies and big corporatations and as they talked, they realized that if people found out, they might get fired and so on. So by the time the photographer came, not too many people wanted their pictures taken. Some of them hid in their cabins. My husband had just left his job; I think he felt we had nothing to lose. I have to say—it was mostly for the men. Women don’t care so much about what people look like naked.

The only ones interested in naked bodies were the other men—in retrospect I can’t help but wonder if some of them weren’t gay. The less women see, the happier they are. At least that’s how it was then.
|
|
It wasn’t supposed to be about sex.
|
|
In fact it was against the rules for the men to get excited, but they couldn’t exactly enforce it—I mean what are you going to do? Stiffies that’s what we called them. In 1963 we were trendsetters. We convinced ourselves that naked was the way to go. I remember telling someone—your skin was just another covering, just another outfit for yourself.’......MORE

Blind Creek News in case you missed it......
Blind Creek Beach is officially the county’s first clothing-optional beach.
|
In a 4-1 vote the County Commission officially designated 36 acres of beach — within the 408-acre park — clothing optional.
|
|
The park is on both sides of south State Road A1A between Frederick Douglass Beach park and the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant.
|
|
“It’s a milestone,” said Nelson Jones, president of Treasure Coast Naturist, a group whose members have been using the beach as a clothing-optional venue for more than 20 years. MORE
