The lotus pond is now in full bloom as are many bright colored flowers throughout Sunsport. People are taking regular golf cart rides on the trail through the jungle and past natural attractions. An improved drainage system in the jungle has kept the cart trail dry in spite of heavy rains. Ponds with mosquito eating fish have been created which dramatically reduce the mosquito population.

The Town of Loxahatchee Groves has adopted a new Comprehensive Plan which includes, "The existing naturist recreational vehicle park which includes private club and accessory recreational facilities legally established prior to the date of incorporation may remain." Of course, that refers to Sunsport. The Plan includes environmentally sensitive values. The Town is zoned Residential/Agricultural with commercial development restricted to Southern Boulevard. Sunsport has a positive relationship with the Town.
Alligators have recently made their way into Sunsport's ponds. Please do not feed them (or the turtles and fish). Large alligators are removed and relocated into the everglades.

The Naturist Family Youth Gathering was lots of fun,

becoming a loving, caring community. There were sports, boating, fishing, tie dying, body painting, and lots of time in the pool plus a beautiful sunny day at clothing optional Haulover Beach hosted by South Florida Free Beaches. As a service project, campers painted and placed markers for a new natue trail branch which John Dodge is creating. Each morning started with a workshop developing interpersonal skills and body acceptance. Campers created a claymation video and, on the last evening, produced a variety show to display their talents. The Gathering is a wonderful opportunity for children and their parents to bond.
Thanks to the Naturist Society Foundation, The American Association for Nude Recreation, and AANR-Florida for supporting the camp.
Photos from the camp and the claymation video will soon be on the website.
The summer edition of N Magazine, the publication of the Naturist Society Foundation, features an article by Katie Ospina about World Naked Gardening Day at Sunsport. The magazine also includes a review by Morley Schloss of Jelaine Lombardi's book, Running Around Naked. The book is a poignant memoir of the author's growing up at Seminole Health Club in Florida.

August is a perfect time to relax and enjoy Sunsport's beauty.

Reminder: Please use the appropriate containers for throwing out items. Place materials such as clean paper and cardboard in the yellow bins; cans, plastics except Styrofoam, juice boxes, and glass and plastic bottles in the blue bins. Place large items such as platforms and furniture near, but not in, the dumpster. Place only bagged garbage and small items in the dumpster. Never place plastic bags in the bins since they clog the recycling equipment.

To help Sunsport and the environment, *please deposit aluminum cans in a special bin with a round hole in the top in the main recycling area.
  • The yellow containers are for paper and flattened cardboard
  • The blue containers are for aluminum cans*, glass, juice boxes, and plastics except styrofoam, bags, and utensils.
  • Deposit other trash in the large grey or black trash bins with tops.
Please secure all trash cans tightly since raccoons are skilled at opening containers and making large messes. Thanks.

Permaculture Sunsport News

Dragonflies:Natures Mosquito Eaters

Dragonflies are predators, both in their aquatic larval stage and in their adult lives. The larval stage of dragonflies lasts up to five years in large species, and between two months and three years in smaller species. Several years of their lives are spent as nymphs living in fresh water; the adults are on the wing for only a few months.

Many dragonflies are territorial, defending a territory against others of their own species. Some dragonflies will protect a territory against other species of dragonfly and a few against insects in unrelated groups.
Did you know that Dragonflies mate in a complex, predetermined process? The female dragonfly deposits eggs on floating or waterside vegetation after she has positioned herself precisely with the male to fertilize the eggs and they have flown together in a heart-shaped union!

Most dragonfly females lay their eggs in mud or water. The nymphs hatch within a few weeks and then live in water for up to two years. Because of this, dragonflies are especially numerous near bodies of water, with the ability to fly to and from their home base easily.

Hey What is Permaculture?

Permaculture is a philosophy of design for creating a sustainable human culture. That is, it's a way of thinking about how we set up the support systems around us: shelter, food, water, energy, society and business. Well designed permaculture systems allow us to live as a beneficial part of the ecosystems around us.

Art & Naturism.......naturist spirited art

The Tree Spirit Project, Nudes In Nature

People who will not sustain trees will soon live
in a world that will not sustain people.

– Bryce Nelson

Trees purify the air; they also purify the mind…
if you want to save your world, you must save the trees.

– J.R.R. Tolkien, The Trees of Endor
The TreeSpirit Project is many things, including:
A collection of fine art photographs by Jack Gescheidt celebrating human interdependence with trees, and all of nature. Of course, people are part of nature; we human beings are not separate from the natural world as we often think or feel we are.
Ordinary, extraordinary people, all volunteers, from all walks of life, bare themselves to boldly, playfully, feel connected again: to trees, to others, to themselves.
The experiences people have while making the photographs. Read Testimonials from participants who report incredible thoughts and feelings during TreeSpirit photo events.

A mission to raise awareness of the critical role trees play in our lives, both globally and personally. READ MORE.
If we cherish Earth’s myriad living creatures, or better still sense all lives as precious, we can alleviate tremendous and needless suffering, including our own. We can rekindle in our hearts a reverence for the interconnectedness of all living creatures, and feel the joy and wonder this realization brings.

Go out among trees, even hug some, and share with others what you feel.
Jack Gescheidt, TreeSpirit Project founder, photographer
The MISSION of the TreeSpirit Project:
Globally, because of all that trees and forests do to make our planet habitable and hospitable for us humans, and all others species; personally, because trees improve our state of being, our consciousness, simply by being in their presence.
