The 2022 Flow Harvest Music and Arts Festival for Young Adults will be the September 9-12 weekend
|

There will be poolside music, campfires, tie-dye, flow arts, kripalu yoga, fire spinning, body painting, karaoke, a free raffle, and a number of interesting workshops. The weekend is only $20 for people aged 18-30 including tent camping . Others are welcome to attend all events for the regular fees. The Weekend is produced by Karl Harris for Young Adult Naturists (YAN).

September Special:
Cabin and trailer accommodations may be rented Mondays through Wednesdays with a consecutive night free (buy one/get one), excluding Labor Day. Sunsport now has a new deluxe rental trailer, Sunburst, beautifully remodeled by Chris and Tom Vuk.

Community Happenings
|
|
Events in September
To celebrate Labor Day Weekend, a Community Cook-Out with chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, and vegiburgers will be held on the restaurant deck on Monday, September 5th, from 1 to 3 pm. Sunsport's own Bobby Whetsel will entertain with poolside music. The event is free, but donations are welcome to help defray the expenses. Bring sides if you wish.
The Community Drum Circle will be Friday, September 2, from 9 pm to midnight. The permaculture group meets at 7 pm on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month in the restaurant.
Daily afternoon petanque and water aerobics Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings continue as does karaoke Friday evenings.

Midwinter Naturist Festival:
September is the month Morley organizes the program for the Midwinter Naturist Festival. The 2023 Festival will be February 16-21. If you would like to lead workshops or activities for adults or children, please call him at (561) 254-9878 or email him at morleynaturist@hotmail.com. He will need to know the title and a one sentence description of your workshop(s). He will also need to know which days you will be attending the Festival, hopefully the whole time, and any special needs for your workshop/activity.

IMPORTANT TRASH POLICY CHANGE
|
The trash area in the northeast corner of Sunsport has been eliminated. Large trash items may now be placed only in the maintenance yard with the supervision of Team Leader Roger Byrd, preferably Monday through Friday.
|
|
The trailer holding recyclable scrap metal will be moved to the maintenance area. Plastic bags full of waste should be deposited in the dumpster in the recycling area, not in the maintenance area.
|
|
|
|
|
Please use the appropriate containers for throwing out items. Place materials such as paper and cardboard in the yellow bins; cans, plastics except Styrofoam, juice boxes, and glass and plastic bottles in the blue bins. Place large items such as platforms and furniture near, but not in, the dumpster. Place only bagged garbage and small items in the dumpster. Never place plastic bags in the bins since they clog the recycling equipment. Thank you.

To help Sunsport and the environment, *please deposit aluminum cans in a special bin with a round hole in the top in the main recycling area.
|
- The yellow containers are for paper and flattened cardboard
- The blue containers are for aluminum cans*, glass, juice boxes, and plastics except styrofoam, bags, and utensils.
- Deposit other trash in the large grey or black trash bins with tops.
|
Please secure all trash cans tightly since raccoons are skilled at opening containers and making large messes. Thanks.

The Nude in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance

The development and eventual dominance of Christianity in late antiquity profoundly changed the needs of patrons and the output of artists. Unlike paganism, Christianity required no images of naked divinities, and new attitudes cast doubt and opprobrium on nude athletics, public bathing, and the very value of the human body.
|
|
|
|
|
The early Christian emphasis on chastity and celibacy further discounted depictions of nakedness. In this climate, there was little motive to study the nude, and unclothed figures are thus rare in medieval art. Among the notable exceptions are Adam and Eve, whose story casts undress in an ominous light. In late antique works like the sarcophagus of Junius Bassus (ca. 359; St. Peter’s Grottoes, Vatican City), the ideal forms of Greco-Roman nudes are transformed into the first exponents of sin. The weakness and defenselessness of the naked man and woman are stressed in medieval art, and this tradition extends into the fifteenth century in such works as Giovanni di Paolo’s Expulsion from Paradise.

The rediscovery of Greco-Roman culture in the Renaissance restored the nude to the heart of creative endeavor. Nude figures based on antique models appear in Italy as early as the mid-thirteenth century, and by the mid-fifteenth century, nudes had become symbols of antiquity and its reincarnation. Donatello adapted the idealized proportions of Greek athletic figures for his celebrated statue of David (ca. 1440; Bargello, Florence) and thus presented a biblical hero in classical guise. In a widely circulated engraving, Pollaiuolo used nude figures in vigorous poses to suggest the range of human action . In the next generation, Michelangelo made his own colossal statue of David, again conceived as an antique nude (1501–4; Accademia, Florence), and elsewhere he devoted unique artistic energy to the male nude. His enthusiasm for the subject was such that he introduced nudes even in religious paintings, including the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel, and he used studies of the male form to imbue figures of every sort with Herculean massiveness and power.
