The Nature Foot Trail and the Golf Cart Trail

Much work has been done on the golf cart and walking nature trails. They are fantastic. People are now walking and take daily golf cart rides past the lotus pond, Buddha head, banana circles, ponds, and native trees. Special thanks to John Dodge and Geoff Farmer who have spent many volunteer hours on this amazing transformation.

Naturist Family Youth Camp July 9-17

Sunsport's 14th Annual Naturist Family Youth Camp will be July 9-17. Spaces for campers are still available. Children aged 4-17 and their families will experience a fun week of growth and community emphasizing interpersonal relations skills and creativity in a natural environment. As usual we will have a fun-filled day playing in the sand and surf at a clothing-optional ocean beach, a camp variety show, crafts, nature exploration, canuding and kayaking, non-competitive sports, producing a claymation video, campfires, and lots of pool time, with individual attention for each camper.

There will be special activities best done clothesfree such as a slip-n-slide with paint, tie dye, water balloon throwing, gooey games, and a 10 foot ice cream sundae with as much landing on bodies as in mouths. Workshops on being proud of who we are, body acceptance, communication skills, and conflict resolution will help establish an atmosphere of caring about each other's feelings and positive relationships.

Sunsport Youth Camp 2021 Low-168

New this year, a flight simulator used to train pilots will allow campers the opportunity to experience flying an airplane. Parents are encouraged to attend the camp participating as much or as little as they like. Most of the favorite counselors will be returning. Dynamic and inspiring Tom Black Hawk Caffrey will be joining as a camp counselor. A gallery of camp photos, articles, and claymation videos from past years are on Sunsport's website. Enrollment forms are also on Sunsport's website. If your child is attending, please email me at [email protected]."

IMPORTANT:

Please do not feed the young alligator or fish. The alligator is beginning to come up on the bank. A fed alligator is a dead alligator. It will have to be euthanized instead of relocated when it gets to a size too big. Little pets and small children could be endangered. Also, people food is not good for the alligator or fish. Please cooperate.

IMPORTANT TRASH POLICY CHANGE

The trash area in the northeast corner of Sunsport has been eliminated. Large trash items may now be placed only in the maintenance yard with the supervision of Team Leader Roger Byrd, preferably Monday through Friday.
The trailer holding recyclable scrap metal will be moved to the maintenance area. Plastic bags full of waste should be deposited in the dumpster in the recycling area, not in the maintenance area.
banner-recyclevert
Reminder:
In the recycling area, please put only aluminum containers, juice boxes, and plastic items (except styrofoam, bags, and utensils) in the blue bins; clean paper and cardboard in the yellow bins. All other small items should be bagged and placed in the dumpster. The maintenance staff should not have to sort our garbage. If the garbage is not sorted properly, it cannot be recycled. Thank you.

To help Sunsport and the environment, *please deposit aluminum cans in a special bin with a round hole in the top in the main recycling area.
  • The yellow containers are for paper and flattened cardboard
  • The blue containers are for aluminum cans*, glass, juice boxes, and plastics except styrofoam, bags, and utensils.
  • Deposit other trash in the large grey or black trash bins with tops.
Please secure all trash cans tightly since raccoons are skilled at opening containers and making large messes. Thanks.

Permaculture Sunsport News

Bird Poop:

Have you noticed something eating your citrus tree leaves lately? The culprit is most likely the orange dog caterpillar. The orange dog caterpillar looks like bird droppings on citrus tree leaves. They aren’t very cute in the larva (caterpillar) stage but after pupation they become the beautiful Heraclides cresphonte; known commonly as the Giant Swallowtail butterfly.
When the caterpillar feels threatened it will send up two red scent glands from its head, hence the name orange dog caterpillar. The glands are to discourage birds and other predators from eating them.

Giant Swallowtail Butterfly Facts:

  • The Giant Swallowtail is the largest butterfly in the United States and Canada.
  • The butterfly has a long tongue an inch-and-a-quarter in length which it keeps curled up until it detects the scent of a flower. The smell stimulates the tongue into stiffening into a probing tube for sipping nectar.
  • Females are larger than males.
  • In California, Giant Swallowtails fly from March to as late as December.
  • They copulate in the afternoon.
  • Swallowtails are so named because of their forked Swallow bird tails.
  • They have eyes on the bottom of their wings.
  • The Giant Swallowtail can live up to a year but usually there are two generations within a year.

Please make a small donation to help us continue to develop the Meditation and Permaculture Projects.

The Sunsport Permaculture Group has been very active. Recent projects have been enlarging the Community Garden and digging a swale to improve the water flow. The meetings have been well attended. Meetings are twice a month, on Monday.

The next meeting is Monday, July 18th, at 7 pm in the restaurant.

Hey What is Permaculture?

Permaculture is a philosophy of design for creating a sustainable human culture. That is, it's a way of thinking about how we set up the support systems around us: shelter, food, water, energy, society and business. Well designed permaculture systems allow us to live as a beneficial part of the ecosystems around us.

Art & Naturism.......naturist spirited art

Too filthy to print – Aubrey Beardsley and his explosions of obscenity

His erotic ink drawings, full of nudity and sex, influenced everyone from Klimt to Picasso.

The drawings Aubrey Beardsley had an incalculable effect on the birth of modern art. Beardsley’s eroticism would soon be emulated all over Europe by revolutionaries such as Klimt, Schiele and Picasso, while James Joyce summed up his impact on modernism in a double entendre: “Kunstfull”.
That isn’t generally how this unique artist is remembered, though. Beardsley is pigeonholed as a preciously eccentric purveyor of late-Victorian erotica. Rediscovered in the 1960s, when both Victoriana and sex were fashionable, he hovers in the subconscious of British art. His name sounds posh, which adds to the air of whimsy, but he was born into an economically unstable lower-middle-class family in Brighton in 1872 and left school aged 16.

IMG_1712
Sex is Beardsley’s theme and, unprovable allegations aside, it seems to have existed for him only on paper. That makes him an artist for our time. Long before the virtual and fluid sexualities of the 21st century, Beardsley created an erotic fantasy world of shifting identities and infinite variety. His art is one long act of self-pleasuring that reached its consummation on Epsom High Street.
IMG_1710
He had known since he was diagnosed with tuberculosis when he was seven years old that his lifespan would be limited. In the two years following his stay in Epsom, he would travel to France in search of better health, dying at Menton on the Riviera in 1898, aged 25.
