There are spectacular lotus flowers in the meditation area pond and also in the new Inga Pond along the walking nature trail. Catch the last few flowers as lotus season winds down. They are best viewed in the morning when they first open.

Coming will be an attractive Japanese style bridge connecting Meditation Field and the entrance to the labyrinth.

Reminder:
Please use the appropriate containers for throwing out items. Place materials such as paper and cardboard in the yellow bins; cans, plastics except Styrofoam, juice boxes, and glass and plastic bottles in the blue bins. Place large items such as platforms and furniture near, but not in, the dumpster. Place only bagged garbage and small items in the dumpster. Never place plastic bags in the bins since they clog the recycling equipment.

To help Sunsport and the environment, *please deposit aluminum cans in a special bin with a round hole in the top in the main recycling area.
  • The yellow containers are for paper and flattened cardboard
  • The blue containers are for aluminum cans*, glass, juice boxes, and plastics except styrofoam, bags, and utensils.
  • Deposit other trash in the large grey or black trash bins with tops.
Please secure all trash cans tightly since raccoons are skilled at opening containers and making large messes. Thanks.

Permaculture Sunsport News

The Monster Fruit:

Monstera deliciosa

A great plant for shady spots..
IMG_2554
IMG_2557

The inflorescence is adorned with a cream-white spathe of uniform, velvety appearance, covering, like a hood, a yellowish white spadix
In those areas where it grows naturally, M. deliciosa is considered a delicacy due to its sweet and exotic flavor. The fruit may be ripened by cutting it when the first scales begin to lift up and it begins to exude a pungent odor. It is wrapped in a paper bag and set aside until the scales begin popping off. The scales are then brushed off or fall away to reveal the edible flesh underneath.
IMG_2577
The flesh, which is similar to pineapple in texture, can be cut away from the core and eaten. It has a fruity taste similar to jackfruit and pineapple. The unripe green fruits can irritate the throat and the latex of the leaves and vines can create rashes in the skin, because both contain potassium oxalate: that is the reason why the fruits have to be consumed when the scales lift up. The black irritant fibres can be swept off with the application of a little citrus juice.
IMG_2549
Fruits of plants of the Araceae (Arum family) often contain raphides and trichosclereids – needle-like structures of calcium oxalate. In M. deliciosa, unripe fruit containing these needle-like crystalline structures can cause irritation of the mouth.
It takes longer than a year for fruits to reach maturity. The fruit first shows signs of ripening by the yellowing of its lowest scales. As it ripens, the starch that was stored in the green fruit is converted to sugar, giving it its sweet flavor. This mechanism is comparable to how banana fruits ripen. The strong odor the fruit produces becomes noticeable when it is half-ripe. As time passes and the fruit continues to ripen, the odor becomes stronger. After it becomes fully ripe, however, the scent deteriorates quickly.
Please make a small donation to help us continue to create.
Hey What is Permaculture?

Permaculture is a philosophy of design for creating a sustainable human culture. That is, it's a way of thinking about how we set up the support systems around us: shelter, food, water, energy, society and business. Well designed permaculture systems allow us to live as a beneficial part of the ecosystems around us.

Art & Naturism.......naturist spirited art

What's the highest paid price for a painting sold by a living artist?

A nude for $33.6 million!

Benefits-Supervisor-Sleeping-Lucien-Freud.jpg
Benefits Supervisor SleepingLucien Freud
One of the most strangely-unique paintings of the most famous nude works of all time is done by Lucien Freud. Painted in 1995, this work is a rare modern painting that’s included among some of the most iconic works from hundreds of years ago.

Freud painted an unflattering figure of a woman lying on a couch. The woman depicted in the painting was Sue Tilley, an acquaintance of the artist who often modeled for him.

Freud hailed his work as being a painting that focused on the nude female form that was “flesh without muscle and it has developed a different kind of texture through bearing such a weight-bearing thing.”
